The 4-H Fair and Chicken BBQ has been an annual family favorite in Cape May County for 66 years and is one of the best family values of the summer. The celebration, will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, July 21, 22 and 23 at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Cape May Court House.  The fair features 4-H project displays, small animal and livestock shows and exhibits, live entertainment, horse shows, commercial exhibitors, a pet show, amusement rides, games, great food and interesting and informative demonstrations.  There is no admission fee to the fair and the shows, exhibits and parking are free! 
   Wizard's Festival of Fun Amusements is always a favorite with the kids, featuring clean and safe rides for the whole family.  
   The fair's traditional, tasty barbecue chicken dinner will be served all three evenings from 5 to 8 p.m. by the Cape May County Board of Agriculture. Always a crowd favorite, Friday's menu adds a choice of delicious filet of flounder or chicken. Barbecue diners will enjoy live entertainment on the main fair stage throughout the evening. The cost of the dinner is $11 for adults and $7 for children 12 and under. 

   The public hours for the fair are noon to 9 p.m. General admission to the fair is FREE, as is public parking and shuttle service to the 4-H fairgrounds on comfortable Cape May County Fare Free buses. The official fair parking area is located at the Cape May County Technical High School, exit 11 off the east side of the Garden State Parkway.

   Sheriff Gary Schaffer announced the start of a new program for juvenile offenders. The program aims to educate the young offender, ages 13 to 17, about wrong choices, consequences and harsh experiences of a correctional setting. 
    The "Jail- It's Not for Me!" program is designed to take referrals from the juvenile courts, police agencies using station house adjustments and diversion programs, as well as, school resource officers.
   The goals of the program are:
·        Prevent the young person from becoming a statistic in the Correctional System
·        Life changing experience to deter juveniles from criminal and gang activity
·        Educate the young person about wrong choices, consequences and harsh experiences of a correctional center setting
·        Educate about negative effects of gang affiliation, alcohol abuse, drug abuse and addiction
·        Enable Correctional Center and Sheriff's Officers to utilize their skills in a program designed to give back to the community
·        Track and dramatically reduce recidivism in the correctional system
   Sheriff Gary Schaffer said, "This is a cost effective program that offers an option to young offenders in hopes of educating them about the harsh realities and consequences of their actions."
   The program is set to begin in July 2011.
