Work to Relocate Sanitary Sewer will Cause Traffic Detours at Crest Haven Complex
Release Date: July 06, 2011

Cape May Court House – Cape May County Engineer Dale Foster today announced that westbound traffic on Crest Haven Road (Exit 11 off the Garden State Parkway) will be closed starting tomorrow.  On or about Thursday, July 7th work will commence on the relocation of the main sanitary sewer servicing the entire Crest Haven Complex located in front of the County Correctional Facility at 125 Crest Haven Road.  No utility service interruptions are anticipated during the construction period.
Foster said, “This sewer main is approximately fifteen feet below ground and the main will be installed at the same depth in the eastbound lane of Crest Haven Road.  Replacing a sewer main at this depth will require a very large excavation and the area will need to be dewatered.  Complicating the work further is the proximity of overhead high voltage electrical transmission lines, the pipeline must be installed in the southerly (eastbound) lane of Crest Haven Road.”
This phase is expected to take three weeks to complete.  During construction, only the eastbound lane will be open to traffic.  The westbound lane of Crest Haven Road will be closed between the Veterans’ Cemetery Entrance and the Fuel Pump driveway.   Westbound traffic will be detoured to Moore Road via the northerly driveway of the Cape May County Technical High School.  Also, a temporary driveway to the County Correctional Facility has been constructed to the east of the existing entrance to maintain access during this construction period.
The work is being performed by Midwest Construction, Inc., of Cherry Hill, New Jersey under the 2011 Utility Improvements at Cape May County Correctional Facility and Cape May County Park Zoo Contract. Other utility improvements and relocations are also being completed at this time in anticipation of the upcoming Correctional Facility improvements.
For additional information, please contact the County Engineer at 465-1035.
