Cape May County Museum Announces 2011 Summer Events

Cape May Court House – Come visit the Cape May County Museum this summer! Now through September: “The Bride Wore White?” an exhibit of 17 wedding dresses from the Museum’s collection dating from 1873 to 2004 is on display. Most of the dresses were worn by Cape May County brides and show the wide range of styles and colors worn over the past century.
 
Wednesday, July 27th: The Museum will partner with the US Postal Service to issue first day first edition stamps commemorating “Owney the Postal Dog.” Stamps will be sold at the Museum from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In conjunction with this event, there will be an exhibit on Cape May County post offices from the 18th and 19th centuries. This exhibit will remain in place through the fall. An Owney “re-enactor” will also be present to greet visitors.
 
Saturday, September 10th: Art for History Art Auction at the Ocean View Resort. Fine and folk art by local artists and artisans including oils, water colors, carvings, handmade jewelry, photography and more will be available. New this year, quality antiques. Silent and live auctions take place throughout the evening. Tickets include hors d’oeuvres and wine bar. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Museum or online at www.cmcmuseum.org under calendar of events.
 
The Alexander Genealogy and Research Library at the Museum will be open selected Saturdays this summer. The Library is open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will also be open on Saturday, July 23rd and August 13th and 27th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 
The Museum is located at 504 Route 9 North, Cape May Court House and is open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free. For more information, please call (609)465-3535 or email museum@co.cape-may.nj.us
