Cape May Court House - Cape May County Freeholder Leonard Desiderio announced that Cape May County’s Fare Free Transportation driver Brian Fitzpatrick, of Cape May City, placed third in the Community Transportation Association’s National Roadeo. The competition held in Indianapolis tested the best paratransit drivers in the country in activities that they do every day.
Freeholder Leonard Desiderio said, “We are proud of the accomplishments of all of our Fare Free drivers and especially proud of Brian Fitzpatrick and Dave Smith. Our professional drivers work each day to ensure the safety of our passengers.”
Seventy of the most proficient operators in the profession put their reputations on the line, competing in events that test their driving skills, knowledge of federal regulations, understanding of vehicle safety and their ability to secure passengers using mobility aids. Last year’s first place national winner Dave Smith, of Lower Township, provided another top 20 performance cementing Cape May County’s reputation as the group to beat. Smith placed first in the State competition in May.
Fare Free Transportation Director Colleen Somers added, “We are proud of Brian and Dave’s achievements on the national level and how they represented Cape May County with the professionalism and skill.”
Fitzpatrick and Smith were sponsored by the New Jersey Community Transportation Training Program and the New Jersey Council on Special Transportation.
